Under 13s v. Littlehampton (Result 1-8) League - 30/01/05
Hey, guess what? We only had 10 players this week. One day we might just get a full team!
Without Jane, Cassie and Natasha we were always likely to struggle as we had lost a bit of bite. However, we tried extremely hard to start with and probably had more of the early play than our Opponents but we lost our way after about 15 minutes and by half-time we were 3—0 down. At this point I must mention Jess who kept us going with some excellent saves, one of which I still can’t see how she got to as the Littlehampton striker shot from point blank range. Jess just dived full stretch to her left and pulled off a fantastic save.
In the second half Littlehampton scored with their first attack and then got another shortly after. We didn’t give up though and Chloe got up to her usual tricks with a well taken goal to make it 5—1.
Towards the end Littlehampton started to make some substitutions and this only made the difference in numbers more noticeable as they went on to get three more goals.
Finally, congratulations to you all for an excellent ‘Three Cheers’ at the end. These have been hard to raise recently and I felt proud that you could still cheer the opposition after such a difficult match. |

Under 13s v. Crawley Wasps (Result 1-8) League - 09/01/05
Just a short report this week as I was not around.
We started off very strongly even though some of our more experienced players were unavailable. Slightly against the run of play Crawley took the lead but this was soon brought back when Kellie curled an exquisite (word of the week!!) free kick into the top corner of the net from just outside the penalty area. For the remainder of the first half the game was more or less even but Crawley went 2 – 1 up just before half-time when Jess’ goal kick failed to find a Worthing player and the fortunate Crawley player did well to round Jess and slot the ball past her.
The half-time talk was positive and the girls went out determined to get that goal back but Crawley turned up the heat and ended up comfortable winners.
A big welcome goes out this week to Cassie, Kerry and Natasha who all made their league debuts for the club. Dave and Darryl both report that all 3 girls made promising starts. They were just unlucky to meet Crawley for their first game.
I understand that nobody really played poorly but nobody shone out either so I may be re-introducing the ‘Player of the Match’ award as a little incentive! |
